A Line of Drawings 2021
unit 3, 2ND Install
My interest in drawing, mark making and various genres of sculpture in part led me to research the work of Richard Long. His use of titles and simple sculptural forms to express, convey and connect himself to locations inspired me to consider this in relation to my practice. This video is documentation of various augmented reality performances undertaken during the early part of 2021. These performances were undertaken at various location. The Augmented Reality consisted of digital sculptures and handmade drawings of various dates, uploaded into augmented reality software. Once uploaded the sculptures and drawings were programmed to perform a variety of movements. This work is both an ongoing exploration and development of digital sculpture in augmented reality and an experimentation of different ways of combining analogue works within augmented reality and vice versa. Inspired by the work of artists like Richard Long and Robert Smithson I was interested to explore augmented reality as a means of making marks in the environment which contrary to the work of Long and Smithson does not leave any physical trace other than the documentation and the digital augmented reality file. My intention to transcend the boundaries of time and space, the act of walking is a basic natural way of traveling through the country side or city. A place and time for inspiration and reflection that I combine with the digital augmented reality file. My intention is that these works should not be permanent, but only known through digital photographic, documentation or my writing, subject to digital decay, the entropy of the digital virus, in contrast to the natural entropy and natural decay, erosion and disbursement of marks made by the work of Land Artists.
Experiments With Augmented reality
The two videos below are a look behind the scenes of my experiments with augmented reality.
